HOTELS MUSCAT & SUR
Hi,We still have not decided on a hotel! The Rwi Hotel looks like fine at value @ $100ca, but is the location por or out of the way? Any thoughts on the following regarding locaton and value - Safeer Continental Hotel, Samara Hotel or City Center Hotel?
Looked at a few apartments but not sure what this entails - are they similar to what we in Canada are familier with that is a suite withot a travel desk or breakfast options?
Presently, we are not renting a car from here but wish to view the driving situation first and may rent in Muscat or wait until we arrive in Sur to rent and use this area as our base to visit Wadi Shab and Ras al Jinz. Any hotel suggestions in the $65 to $100us range for Sur?
Can this be correct? I checked out a 5 day tour and the price came to $2400.00 for two persond. Did I get the price conversion wrong or are tours that costly in Oman? (941000 OMR)
THANKS AGAIN

Yes, that tour price could well be right. Tours are notoriously expensive in Oman - very poor value. (that said, your tour definitely wont be 941,000 rial! did you add an extra couple of zeros??) If you're a driver you really would be better off hiring a vehicle and doing it yourself. The traffic in Muscat is a little crazy but once you get out of town it's fine - so if you're not comfortable driving in Muscat you can always take taxis within town and then hire just to get out of there! You could stop at Wadi Shab on your journey from Muscat, then drive on to Sur or even stay at Ras Al Hadd (the turtle beach resort there is quite a nice spot - fairly basic, but nice to be on the beach!).3
No, rent the car in Muscat and drive to Sur yourself. If you have time, try to get out to Wahiba Sands for a night in a desert camp too. If you're not used to 4x4 driving in sand this can be quite intimidating, so best to get someone from the camp to meet you and guide you in! On way back to Muscat why not stop at Nizwa or some of the other sights. You can do a loop...4
If you want a basic clean hotel that gives you value for money try the Mutrahh hotel which is the oldest hotel in Muscat only 20 OMR per night for double room not shiny but authentic and its only 10 minutes walk from the Mutrahh souq and the quayside. As for Ras Al Jinz went there 2 weeks ago and was told by two Omani's at reception quite bluntly ' no turtles and too far to walk', we did not bother and went to Ras Al Hadd along the coast a bit and got a room for 60 OMR including dinner and breakfast, good value for money and very friendly staff.5
Hi and thanks,I had listed the Mutrahh as a choice and on our advice move it up our list f hotels. Your price is less then te net price being offered. Also checking out the Majan Cntinental and Dumas. Anyone stayed at either hotel?
Think I wil post s a new post to grab a fast look from others brwsers.
John
