  • as is mentioned in my first post, Taksin BTS station is closed since June:

Wrong. Misinformation.
It is not closed.
Still open.

Check-in is right.

Gan Bin Thai is another market with local clothes and some factory surplus clothes of major brands - often from Cambodian factories. Not too far from Chatuchak, on vibavadi rangsit soi 22, behind the maha nakhon school and near the Thai airways tower.
Mon-sat, daytime.

Talat rot fai, not far from Chatuchak either, is sat and Sun night market, browsing shops, foodstalls, drinks, large place mainly local crowd.

For wat Arun, wat pho and grand palace do afternoon trip there, then head at 5pm to the upstairs 'amoroso' bar for best sunset view of wat Arun, better than hired boat.

Upstairs of Arun residence.

After head to Chinatown, yaowarat street, about where the white orchid hotel is, for evening street food stalls or talat saphan put, evening market under memorial bridge, mainly local clothes, daily except Wed I think.

Petchaburi soi 10 not far from your hotel has evening food market as well and don't forget to take the wife to pratunam, huge clothes market, wholesale and retail, not far away either.

The link I tried to post yesterday is - hopefully - here: http://people.reed.edu/~reyn/BangkokSystemMap6.11.pdf

Not quite sure where it got the extra backslash from yesterday... I think it's different to the others and is handy because it shows how the railways interlink quite clearly.

Fingers crossed this one works!

Cheers,

Judymcl, you are aware that this is the masterplan, many of those lines don't exist yet or are only under construction as of now.

^ Quite so, and many are likely to be cancelled/altered before any construction starts!

....and yes of course Saphan Thaksin station still operating. It WILL close WHEN they start to demolish it, naturally. This Is Thailand - WHEN is the word. Sorry to say this, but you can't always believe what you read in the newspapers, though it's true Elvis has left the Post building.

The BTS branch along bangna-trat has been put on ice, otherwise quite a few have been approved and financed, construction under way or beginning soon.
Purple line from bang sue to Nonthaburi well under way as is subway extension to phetkasem.

BTS extensions to laem lukka finally financed and approved, to paknam construction to begin.

Red line to rangsit ready to be build as well.
