also Inle during the balloon fest at cheaper places, looks like being a busy season this year and I thought it was crowded like crazy last year in Novmber. Regarding booking accommodation, other threads are advising they are having problems getting replies back from the Hotels, so you may not have a choice about booking, so probably when you land in Yangon, negotiate fare with Taxi, (less than US$10 / 8000K) about driving around downtown Yangon and finding a Hotel, once you get a Hotel, see if they have a list of phone numbers of Hotels for your next destinations. Also, as soon as you arrive in any town, check with your Hotel about booking a bus to your next destination as well. Just a warning about Yangon Bus Station, the bus station has taken over a small town on the outskirts of Yangon, and its about 7000K to get a Taxi there, but show the Taxi driver your bus ticket and dont get out of the Taxi until he finds the office of your bus company, otherwise allow for 2 hours of trudging around a small town filled with 1000 buses.4
take taxi from airport after changing money at new banks there, to Railway station car park just up from Traders hotel. and book your overnight bus and ask for the shuttle bus $1 to bus station this will drop you off at your bus.when you come back to Yangon walk to taxi stand but after is local bus no 43 4 looks lik a ? mark the wrong way around and 3 looks like one the right way around . This bus will take you direct to Sule Pagoda about 40 minute bus ride for 300kyat.if you are not staying in Yangon first day as I always advise get straight out and leave Yangon for last then leave luggage at bus ticket office and then go to local public telephone on the street and call the hotels you want to stay in for next night

You do have a choice about booking. Guesthouses are more likely to answer their phones than their email. Given how crowded it was in Yangon last year, plane loads of people arriving and not an available hotel room in Yangon, I'd book at least my first few nights in advance. Mandalay was the second most crowded, but there were people who could not find rooms at Inle and Bagan as well.7
There are many people and threads who say that the accommodation in Burma is a problem in november, some people even advice to stay out. But many are presuming. There are no facts and evidence about this. No one knows the exact shortage of beds in Mandalay and how many tourists will sleep in the subway darling. Will it be ten or will it be 100?Some will say not to take the risk. But also they don't know the real change of having a miss. I think it is all about liking an adventure or have it all written out.
The warners here, assume you want it all planned out from day to day. And yes then they have to warn you.
And you can always have someone else to do the booking: join a tourgroup. They seem to have no problem in finding accommodation.

which once again plugging agents will end with you in upmarket Hotels etc and maybe on the lake Inle ( or even in it) instead of naungshwe etc11
Re #10 It will be interesting reading this Myanmar branch of the Thorn Tree forum over the next few months to see the outcome of this huge influx of people and the lack of accommodation, or whether it will all just work out as it usually does, with Hotels finding extra nooks and crannies to shove in the odd backpackerADVERTISEMENT
