If you get to Austin, stay at the Clarion Hotel. I-35 at Oltorf. Cut through the convenience store parking lot on Oltorf to get to the hotel.

One of the finest hotels I've been in. Best breakfast selection I've seen. Close to the South Congress Avenue strip. $90 for a single.

The old motels on south Coungress are $135. Only good if you think you'll drive drunk. Austin's bad about that.

Hi,

We are now looking at the following route - think it takes into account what everyone has been saying on this thread:
http://goo.gl/maps/jrkn7

From Nashville, we're trying to get to New Orleans - is it worth going via Memphis? What is there to do along the route?

I know everyone says between New Orleans and Miami is a terrible route, but we've got to do it anyway - so are there any decent via points or detours to do, or is it literally just a case of driving back ASAP?

Cheers,
Matt

I think Memphis is fine, and for you, worth some time. Maybe a day, day and a half. Lots of music, and great barbecue.
If you decide to skip it, however, consider this.

Imo, it's a matter of driving back asap. Your plans are already pushing the two week limit, and nothing on that drive is worth taking time from someplace else.
