Travelling by boat from top of Padma River to the ocean

I am travelling in Bangladesh from the 4th to the 30th of October 2012.

I am hoping to buy/ hire a boat in Rajshahi and take this all the way down the Padma river to the ocean.
I was thinking of buying a fishing boat and chucking a small outboard motor on it, or I might hire a boat and a man to give me a hand.

Is there any glaring problem that will prevent me from completing this journey?
Any tips or advice?
Am i better off boat hoping my way down rather than taking 1 vessel the whole way?
Anyone keen to join me? haha

I have already riden a royal enfield motorbike from Gaumuk (Glacier in Himalayas at top of highest headwater of ganges river) across India to the border with bangladesh.
Continuing from Rajshahi just on the other side of the border will complete the trip out to the ocean.

Does anyone know where I can buy a comical sailors uniform in Dhaka before I start?

What an idea! What kind of boat you want?

you seem to be a funny guy, regarding the sailors uniform, i suggest you search the internet for pictures of these uniforms... captain would suit you as a future fishing boat owner on Padma river- means all the decorations like on the dreamship soap operas-
and have it measure made in Dhaka, there are lots of tailors who will be more than happy to do this, and both of you will have some more fun.

would be great if you could post a picture when you first wear it.....
happy travelling

Originally I was thinking of a small wooden fishing boat, maybe 1m wide, 3m long. A canopy on it would be nice for when it rains.
Then I saw in India they have sweet boats a similar size with an out rigger on one side which feels alot safer.
The river is flowing fast enough that I'd be happy to float down at the speed of the current but if I get into trouble it would be wise to have a motor. It would have to be the most pathetically small out board tacked on the back to maximise comedy value.
Sail boat? Anything really. Ill probably get there and see a boat I never thought of and go with that.

Is it possible to travel by boat from the mouth of the padma over to chittagong?
