which side of corn island best?
I am planning a week on Big Corn Island and have read through many sites regarding accomodations. I can seem to decide which side of the island would be best to stay on? would like to stay near a nice beach where you can swim. Looking to spend max $40/night for 2 people, certainly don't mind walking to restaurants etc. as long as it's safe to do so at night.Any suggestions?

There are some great options such as Posada Bella Vista on Brig Bay beach. Nice Italian owner (speaks little english) who cooks pretty good food. Right next door is Paraiso Club, that also has a good restaurant. You should be able to find a room at either one of those places at the higher end of your budget.A more budget option that is close by would be Mayflowers where you can find good rooms for $15 a night.
On the north end of the island is Hotel Morgan is on the other side of the road from the beach. The beach isn't the best (it's a bit rocky) but you can swim. The hotel also has a restaurant though I have never eaten there.
If you really would like to get away, check out the treehouse and the crows nest on Long Bay. It's a bit far to walk to any restaurants, but has a great beach, is very secluded and relatively close to a good local bar/dancehall that you can't hear from the rooms.
But if you have a week, you have time to shop around. It's a small island; stay at Mayflowers for the first night and take a look at the other places.

I would go to the South End. I stay at the Sunrise but I think that is $45 a nite. That gives you AC, TV hot shower and nice clean room. Just a short walk to Long Beach and nice swimming. Very safe end of the island with many restaurants within walking distance. I stay there alone and walk all over, never a problem. Go the the Big Corn Island website and look under accommodations. They have a great listing for both islands.ADVERTISEMENT
