As for spicy, I love the spicy salads, for example the fish salads or green mango or papaya, but sometimes they make it so spicy that it takes me more than an hour to get it down. That of course is a way of slowing down the intake of calories.
Remember -
I try to eat noodle soups a lot. There are a lot of vegetable dishes available. Eat where Thais eat and receive smaller portions. Som tam is a good idea. I try to only eat twice a day and as others have mentioned walk a lot.

Thai Food
This is such a random question. But i am going to Thailand and was wondering did anyone loose weight unintentionally from the food change, spicy food whilst being there?2
At first I thought it was too hot to even have an appetite so I lost weight. Then when I got used to the heat and discovered a wider range of foods I ate a lot more and put the weight back on. Depending on what you choose some foods can be very high in fat and sugar so if you end up craving certain things you can gain weight easily. But then you can eat what the pencil thin Thai models eat to stay thin, som tam. A big plate of spicy som tam will clean you right out.3
I never stop eating and drinking in SEA and usually come home lighter than when I left, in any event I never put weight on. I cook alot of SEA very spicy dishes at home in Europe so I don't think it's the food per se. I suspect it's a combination of the heat and general increased holiday activity, lots of snorkelling, swimming, hiking etc.4
When I am on vacation, I tend to lose weight due to the constant activity (as opposed to normal daily life working in an office). But regarding Thai food, I find I eat very healthy in Thailand due to all the fresh ingredients. I eat meat but stick mostly to fish by preference, and I love rice and vegetables, so Thai food is perfect for me. In general Thai food is very healthy compared to western food, less fat, less fatty snacks, so I think most people would tend to lose weight. As for spicy, I love the spicy salads, for example the fish salads or green mango or papaya, but sometimes they make it so spicy that it takes me more than an hour to get it down. That of course is a way of slowing down the intake of calories.

I lose weight when travelling in SEA. It is deliberate. I have just returned after five and a half months away and lost about 10 kg.Remember -
fried foods are bad - they are cooked in fully saturated palm oil and often not drained properly. Go for boiled things.
SEA rice is bad - try to eat noodles.

Depends how much walking you do. If you do lots you can eat as much as you want and not put on weight. Walking around Thailand and eating street food is a lot of fun.11
The main problem is that the food in Thailand is so good it is difficult to stop eating and if you spend time with Thais you will find that they are always eating and snacking. Like most of the above I find that despite eating a lot and enjoying the odd bottle of beer I do not seem to put on weight and nor do I lose it13
Don't forget bread. Most Westerners eat lots of it at home whereas in Thailand there is rarely any decent bread to eat so lots of calories missing.
