Tour guides for Port au Prince and surroundings

I've found some great information on this forum and am very excited to be visiting Haiti next month. I'm covered on the Cap Hatien part of the trip but will only have two days in in Port au Prince and want to make the most of it. Most of the guides that I've found online have been very expensive, at least for my budget ($275 for one day) and I think are aimed at larger groups.

When I've traveled to other countries (Nepal, Mali) I've found local guides who were very inexpensive. But those places didn't have Haiti's reputation and I wonder if I'm safer trying to find someone recommended before I go. Does anyone have a local guide who speaks English (my French is okay but not enough, I'll study up on the Creole as well)? I'm thrilled to take public transportation around.

Thanks very much for any information.

If you don't require a car, the cost of a professional guide should be very reasonable and worth the expense. Depending on your interests, a casual guide may not know a great deal about the sights you are interested in.
That said, others may be able to suggest such a casual guide, or a professional not mentioned below

I suggest emailing these folks and specifying what you are looking for - I'm sure they will be happy with a solo client and w/o car costs, the price should be decent.

Good luck and enjoy - it is also possible that your hotel can arrange a good guide, too, depending on where you are staying. Even guesthouses will be able to help arrange someone.

I can only hope I'm a bit helpful.
