3 days in Tuscany (travel companion & itinerary needed)Hi All,
Thanks in advance if you send me any advice.
I'm flying into Pisa (2nd October 9am) and flying out from Pisa (5th October 3.30pm).
I have looked at other post about Tuscany & nice places to see. For this trip I'm only interested in countryside views, relaxing, enjoying local food & wondering the streets.
Would someone be able to advise if my itinerary is a good one and not to stressful. I will be traveling by bus & trains (where possible)
Day 1 - fly into Pisa
Go to Montepulciano & Pienza ( bus or train?) stay the night in either Montepulciano & Pienza
Day 2 - Go to Siena, stay the night
Spend day in Siena & San Gimignano
Day 3 - go to Volterra & Livorna ( spend night in Volterra & Livorna?)
Day 4 - leave for Pisa to catch my flight at 3.30pm.
Is this itinerary including too many sights or not enough that I can include more?
If someone (or more people) who is also in this area & wants a traveling companions please also let me know. I have read hiring a car is a great way to see the countryside. I'm quite happy to share expenses. I know it's probably a very slim chance this would happen, but who knows, I'm putting it out there :-)
Thank you again if you take the time to share your knowledge

2If you are doing this by public transport, you need to do some serious work on bus and train schedules - for train see trenitalia, and the buses in Siena are mostly on the tra-in website.
Firstly, the only bus from Pisa airport to Siena leaves around 1 pm - you will be better getting the train via Pisa Centrale to Empoli and change there to a train to Siena. If it was me I would aim to base myself in Siena.
There are a reasonable number of buses from Siena to Pienza and Montepulciano and I would aim to do a day trip.
Volterra is a really difficult place to get to by bus and train, but there are direct buses from Siena to San GImignano - perhaps stop off at Colle val d'Elsa if you want to see somewhereelse that day, but the old city is a long walk up the hill from the main road.
You might find the one through bus per day from Siena to Pisa airport OK for your return journey, I think it leaves around 8 in the morning, but I expect you'll find it on their website.

4IMHO this is an entirely ridiculous itinererary. You will spend all your time on the move rather than actually seeing anything. I can't imagine anybody would want to do a crazy trip like this with you. You're flying into Pisa, but you're not spending any time there. You are spending a night in Siena, but with your day trip to San G (the place in Italy with the highest number of tourists per square meter) you won;t see anything in Siena. Etc.

5You have no chance following your plan without hiring a car, you need to rethink this you mention you are only interested in countryside but then want to visit towns. Perhaps have a rethink of what you want to do and bare in mind that the weather at the moment is pretty awful rainy and cloudy every day, infact at the present time we have a huge storm blowing in.

Thank you so much for all your advice, I will try to cross post this, I know a car is ideal, but I'm a bit insecure about driving. I'm from Australia, we drive on the other side of the road, so I feel I would be a bit confused with the roads. Hopefully, I will find a traveling companion that wants to hire a car. :-). I was thinking my itinerary is a bit ambitious. Thanks for that advice. I will stay in Siena & see what day trips I can do from there. This trip is a last minute plan, so I'm sure I have included some places that are busy. But I will see what I can do to make it a relaxing one.
Thanks all again!!! I really appreciate your advice, it's really helped on such short notice

I think my route will be quite restricted because of time & travel mode.
And wow!!! A storm, just great. Maybe lots of sipping coffee & people watching :-)
I guess I will just be happy to get to Tuscany.
I will base myself in Siena & see what happens. All the advice offered has been just great.
I posted on the travel Companions branch and hopefully by luck someone joins me...
That would be so fortunate. :-)
