On another note, has anyone been to Sri Lanka recently? Positive or negative feedback? The last 2 winters, I spent around south India, and loved it. I'm looking for something different this time. I have been to S.L. many years ago, and found it much more low key, and everything on a smaller scale than India. Of course. So how are things today?

3With the war being over, it is quite peaceful here in Sri Lanka these days. Except for there being much more traffic, prices have gone way up, more commercialization etc. Sri Lanka may seem much the same as you experienced it many years ago especially out in the countryside. Things like roads and communications etc. might work a little better now also.

6Fee for ETA for Sri Lanka is $20 if you apply directly online. There is no requirement to show financial resources.

7For tourist ETA, do you need a flight ticket out, as I usually don't travel on a fixed schedule? Which website do you apply for this ETA, and does that also mean no regular visa, meaning sending in ones passport.
As far as prices, I imagine compared to India being so cheap. Is it really that much more expensive?
I also don't travel for the tourist attractions. More for the local interaction, and photography. That's why I love Varanassi so much. There's no other place like it. At least I haven't found one.

`Bout double. And losing tourists bc of it.

9#7 just create an e ticket using any template from a legit e-ticket. Some inexperienced officials ask for proof of onward travel and funds because they are told to ask.
In my case it is obvious that I have no intention of staying too long or doing any paid work or anything but visit their lovely country. Yet I was asked once to show onwar travel and proof of dunds in some middle eastern country.

10What if a person do not get ETA and land in Sri Lanka, do they grant visa in that case? How much is the fee then?
