Rental car & driving from Prague to Berlin

Hello, I'm renting a car and driving from Berlin to Prague, and then back to Berlin a few days later. I have the standard info from Google Maps.. 356km distance each way, etc. Does someone have a route/roads they recommend to see something other than the blur of landscape and the asphalt of the autobahn along the way? Many thanks in advance! Jason

Hi - have you checked with the rent-a-car co. that you can can cross borders, without an additional fee?
I mean nowadays you should be fine, with D and CZ both being EU member countries.
However, I hired a car in Budapest last year - and was charged extra for taking it into Slovenia.

The section between Dresden and Prague is very scenic; via Koenigstein and Bad Schandau in Germany's 'Saxon Schweiz', then crossing the border near Hrensko in Czechia and continuing down through Decin, Usti nad Labem, Litomerice and Melnik to Prague...

Outside Litomerice you have Terezin, or Theresienstadt that the Germans called it during WW2.
The Terezin prison was a concentration camp and the city a ghetto as it is walled making a natural inclosure.
Theresienstadt camp had a very important part in the history as it was shown up to Red Cross as an ideal camp where the Jews were happy to live and that they prefered to be there.
You can find a lot of info by google the name.

Also not so far from there is the former original village of Lidice.
Connected to WW2 as SS totally erased the whole village and its 500 citizen from the face of earth on 10 June 1942.
This as a revenge for the assassination of Heinrich Reinhardt a couple of week earlier.

Thanks for the tips everyone. Our flight was delayed nearly 5 hrs getting into Berlin, so we headed down pretty quickly only stopping in Pirna (lovely town) and arriving Prague at nighttime. On the way back up, we turned the GPS to avoid the fast roads and stopped first in Litomerice, then Decin, then Hrensko. From there we hit the autobahn back up to Berlin. I must say.. BMW might be the "ultimate driving machine" as their tagline stated, and Germany's autobahn might be the ultimate driving experience. The respect for only using the left lane for passing is remarkable, and of course going 190kph and being passed like I was stopped was quite... incredible.

Thanks for the tips and pointing us to these great cities/towns!
