I Need Suggestions - I have 5 days to explore Italy south of Rome....

....Where I am now. I only know Northern, Italy not Southern, Italy. Any advice on towns, places, festivals, beaches, etc. are greatly appreciated.
Thanks everyone in advance, I look forward to hearing from you.

Best,
Craig

If I were you, I would see the Amalfi Coast. I have been to the island of Capri, Sorrento, Pompeii, and the island of Ischia. All are great places. Enjoy your trip! Capri is very expensive so if you are looking to save money, you could stay at Ischia or Sorrento and take a ferry over. The site of Pompeii is incredible, you should definitely visit it. Make sure you order pizza in the Amalfi Coast, they definitely have the best pizza in all of Italy, when in Capri, make sure you take a boat ride around the island, they offer plenty of tours where your ferry would come in. I hope this helps!

Craig, in what time of the year? Amalfi Coast is undoubtedly beautiful, but not in January.
Definitely Naples, and if you can make it that far Sicily. Then there's so much but it all depends by tastes and season.

Let me know and I can help you better. And maybe see you in Rome!

I'll be driving.

Thank you,

OK, so definitely go to Naples and base there. I'd suggest you to stay out of the center, so you can park your car at the hotel and reach the center by metro. Pozzuoli can be a great base (there's a beautiful Roman Anfitheatre) or the Agnano/Bagnoli area. In the city you'll pay a fortune to park.
Once in Naples you can spend a day to drive around: head to Sorrento, then drive along the Amalfi Coast through Positano, Amalfi, and end in Salerno. From Salerno you can take the highway back to Naples.
A second day can be spent in Pompei.
I wouldn't go further South, so consider something between Rome and Naples: along the coast there are Sperlonga and Gaeta, both very pretty. And along the highway you may visit Montecassino and the Caserta Royal Palace.
This is already more than you can see in 5 days!

If not already decided, try these for some of the places you may enjoy visiting:

Campania: http://www.pbase.com/isolaverde/tele

Lazio: http://www.pbase.com/isolaverde/lazio

If you've any preference for whom you'd wish to amongst, the places most favoured by foreign visitors are listed here:

Perhaps try this, from the tourist board in Naples, for local site and museum details, city hotel and restaurant listings, etc etc....

That's the August edition, however it rather looks like there'll not be one for September!
