B&B recommendations
Why would anyone want to stay in hotels when there are Irish B&Bs? I travelled with 3 other ladies - we were in our 30s and 60s. Our B&B experiences were outstanding. We likened it to staying with Irish cousins. In our experience, these hosts were genuinely interested in our comfort. Their rooms were clean and comfortable, they served outstanding food, provided peat fires on cold, rainy nights, spoiled us rotten and genuinely made us feel at home! We highly recommend: Pauline and Brian Daly at Daly's B&B in Navan, Co Meath, Evelyn and Declan McParland at Teach Eamainn near Sligo Town, Ena and Ger Scahill at Lurgan House B&B, Westport, Co Meath and Regina & Jim Hopkins at Kingstown House, Clifden, Co Galway. Also, if you're flying into or out of Shannon Airport, George and Joan Quinn will be sure you have a lovely experience on your first/last nights in Ireland. What a beautiful spot!2
I stay at 2 regular B&B's in Co. Antrim. Excellent everything. Done ! !3
Interestingly we traveled through the republic in 2009 by car and stayed exclusively in B&B's. Our experience was fantastic. Would echo OP's thoughts. Owners showed a sincere empathy into our comfort, where we were traveling, how we enjoyed our stay, etc.We just got back from Dublin a few days ago and stayed at a b%B there in Kilmainam. Absolute shite. Our beds weren't turned over, owner didn't replace linens or clean floors. The saving grace was that Richard the owner was a unique man to say the least. Very charming and funny. Our 4 year old sure enjoyed his wit and mannerisms. Plus he gave us 20 euro for cab ride to the airport- so bit of a trade off.
