Day trip from Cotswolds to North Wales?!
Hi any and all suggestions appreciated!Grandma and I plan to go to England and Wales next summer. I am trying to plan a drive from the Cotswolds to north Wales with maximum sight seeing. We would like to see Arlington Row, Stratford upon Avon and Chester, but I'm just not sure we can do all of that in one day of travel? Any tips?
We are definitely renting a car. Grandma will be 76 and does not like walking long distances.

Wait, so you're travelling from somewhere in the Cotswolds to somewhere in North Wales by car, but wanna go to Arlington Row, S-U-A and Chester en route (if I got this right)...Well, Bibury (where Arlington Row is), ain't gonna hold your interest for more than an hour tops.
From there to SUA is a 1 hr drive along some incredibly slow roads. SUA could conceivably last you all day, should you choose to want to watch a play, stroll the streets, go check out the canals, Anne Hathaways cottage, Mary Arden's house, etc.
I'll pass on Chester to a large extent - I know the city walls, Eastgate clock, The Rows and the cathedral are worth a look, but no more than that. Note that from SUA it's 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 hrs drive, including driving up the M6, which is one of the busiest motorways in Europe and prone to jams.
Besides, you could always do Chester from N Wales as a day trip if it's raining, innit.

I think if you've never been to Chester it's definitely worth a few hours. And there are alternatives to driving on the M6 ... slower, granted, but for sightseeing the alternative may be worth considering ...However, to attempt both in 1 day as a first time visitor is probably trying to fit in a bit too much.

Along with your "Ireland in 3 days", you are going to have an exhausting time and not enjoy yourselves much. So, please consider cutting down a bit - or spending 2 days for trip from Cornwall to North Wales via Cotswolds, Stratford upon Avon and Chester.I actually had to look up Arlington Row, Bibury, as although I've visited Cotswolds many times, I'd never heard of it. I'd always suggest Snowshill Manor http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/snowshill-manor/ since loving being a bit scared by the Japanese armour and weapons, then running round the model village, as a child.
If you are going to SuA, then your should see more, such as birthplace houses, cottages etc.
Chester relies more on walking than other places - city walls might be a challenge for Grandma if she doesn't like walking long distances or up / down steps - the same will apply to many sights in north Wales eg Conwy Castle.

Hi....As already mentioned, Chester is a great little city with a bucket load of interesting things to see and do.
However for people with walking difficulties, it can be very challenging.
Eastgate, the cathedral and part of the wall are OK, but there are a huge amount of steep steps in Chester.
To see a lot of the historic wall (one of the world's finest) and the river, involves a lot of uphill walking.

Cotswolds to S-U-A is a much shorter day trip - too.
