15We were also there around the anniversary of the Falklands and although the flags, placards, graffiti etc seemed to be anti-UK, no-one said anything to us about it. We tried not to draw attention to ourselves near those areas and had a back-up plan to pretend we were German! I'm sure it's a minority of Argentinians who would express those views so openly. Overall, the Argentinian people we spoke to mainly seemed friendly and reasonable.
SummerofGeorge, you have made our bad experience seem negligible! We stayed in Palermo which didn't seem so bad to wander around at night, but still, there weren't any people about at night away from the main restaurants and bars and I'm sure the ultra-safe security measures our hotel seemed to abide by were put there for a reason!
As for costs in Brazil vs. Argentina, we found them to be around the same for food, transport, hotels... possibly slightly cheaper in BA than Rio but there wasn't a noticeable difference. Ilha Grande was probably the cheapest place for accommodation and food, which we hadn't really expected!
