Excellent information. We are in Sulawesi at the moment in Tana Toraja and are hoping to get across to the islands in a couple of weeks but need to look at the best route. We are planning to go to Manado and then onto the Banda Islands and Wakatobi islands but its hard work trying to work out the best route around!!!
Looks like it will be worth the effort though. Can't wait to get there.

HI Does anyone know who flies from Bau Bau to Wanci as am having trouble finding any airlines online. Merpati fly from Makassar to Bau bau but not on to Wanci. I am looking to fly end of sept / beg october this year. Cheers

From Bau Bau, it's my understanding that you have to take a boat. To fly to Wanci, you transit through Makassar and not through Bau Bau. It's an Express Air flight--morning departure from Makkasar.

The boats from Bau Bau to Wanci, I believe, are daily, but they're overnight sailings. You get on the boat at night and arrive in the early morning.

At present there are only 3 flights per week from Makassar to Wakatobi with Wings Air. They fly on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
The other option is to fly to Bau-Bau from Makassar on a morning flight, and then take the Cantika Express Boat from Bau-Bau to Wakatobi. This is a new daily boat sevice and leaves Bau Bau at approx 12 noon and arrives in Kaledupa (near Hoga) at approx 17.00. For the return Journey, it departs Kaledupa at 07.00am and arrives in Bau-Bau at aprox 12.00 noon. Prices per person are: Bau Bau - Kaledupa - VIP: IDR225,000, Economy: IDR175,000.
