Jambo Guest House, Stonetown, Zanzibar
Jambo Guest House is involved in CRIMINAL activities. They offered to buy my ferry tickets and I gave them genuine US$100 notes. However they swapped them for counterfeit notes and then they returned claiming that the notes I had given them were counterfeit and gave me back the forged notes back instead. Also they entered our room whilst we were away and swapped some of my genuine euro notes into forgeries - STAY AWAY - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED1
Sorry but I little sympathy for anyone who gives money (US cash) to a backpacker manager. It was asking for trouble! As for having your euro's stolen - why was it left in an unlocked bag? I never leave my bags unlocked when staying in any of this type of accommodation. But at least everyone else has been warned.3
Me? I don't work for anyone in Stone Town - if you have read any of my posts that would be obvious. And even if I was working for a rival (which is a bit difficult from 12000 km away) my advice is still correct!!OK I was a little tough on our friend - but the ferry from Stone Town (Zanzibar) to Dar or Pemba is probably the easiest travel to organise. You just go down to the ferry office (take your passport) and hand over your $ 35/40 US and nominate what day, what time, what ferry and you are all set. Handing over $100 US makes no sense to me - and where did the Jambo Guest House manager get the counterfeit notes?? There haven't been any pre-2005 US notes on the island for the past 5/7 years for just this reason - they were easy to copy. This one is sounding more unbelievable each time I read it.

Yes, there are notes before 2005 in the country, and banks, at least Exim, take it, even in Arusha the Forex take after 2000, earlier ones for a cheaper rate. I believe the story, people can see immidiately, whether you can be the perfect prey. But no doubt, it can also be a competitor.Edited by: johannestz
