Getting a visa at Bole?

For Americans, the State Department site says tourist visas are available upon arrival at Bole "in some cases". Can any Americans comment on that, please?

In some cases??!

In all cases I'd say, no problem at all, US$20, no photo needed.

You probably saw the note on the US State Dept page that people born in Eritrea, regardless of current nationality, cannot obtain visas upon arrival at Bole.

Otherwise, I haven't heard of people traveling on US passports having any trouble getting visas at Bole.

Thanks, guys... that State Department wording was rather strange. You never know, though. There seem to be a lot of countries who want you to jump through hoops before they'll allow you to come and leave a whole lot of money behind.

The VOA at Bole has always been pretty much strait forward for American's except as pointed out for Americans of Eritrean descent.

i got a VOA at bole back in march no problem. a couple weeks after, there was word going around on this forum that they were stopping the issuing of VOA at bole. and then i think they changed their minds again. i think you should be fine.

We didn't have any problems this morning (9/9/2012) getting our VOAs. Just make sure you have 20 USD per visa. The VOA office is to the left when you enter into the immigration room at the airport - there's a fairly big sign so it's easy to find.

Hi, I arrived at Bole in Addis Ababa last night and got a visa on arrival with no problems. I am an American and it cost $20 USD. Took about five minutes, no passport pictures required.

Just out of curiosity, how long a visa did you get? Was it a 30 day or a 90 day.

Sorry EW, I just saw your question. Checked my passport, and though the writing is very hard to read, I'm practically positive it was a 30 day visa.
