1Both are great! It's been years since I went to see the acrobats in Beijing, so I hesitate to recommend a place that may have changed (Chaoyang Theatre).
I'm not a big fan of son-et-lumière type shows like the one in Yangshuo, but I must admit it's gobsmacking. It's a "can't miss". take a raincoat if it's wet: the seats are outside.

2I respectfully disagree
Acrobatic shows are leftover from decades ago when they were part of every foreigner tour groups itinerary to China, but few Chinese ever go to the show. Why are there rarely Chinese tour groups at these shows? I bet they do not like acrobatic shows because most of the children in the shows are permanently deforming their bodies, are worked like animals, never get to the see their families, and become useless members of society once they are too old to be flexible and end up in the real world with no education.
The Zhang Yimou show in Yangshuo is slightly entertaining but all of Zhang Yimou's "impressions" shows (Yangshuo/Lijiang/Hangzhou) are just more olympics opening ceremonies stuff- large amounts of people moving in unison and bright lights, not much more. No moving plot line that's for sure. I live near the Hangzhou Impressions show and always see half the audience leaving early each night.
The issue then is what to do at night? I guess when planning an itinerary in China the hardest part is finding enough activities to do at night. I have no constructive suggestions so maybe I should not bitch about the acrobats and plotless laser light shows.

5thanks all for your thoughts. I checked some online videos but still.... the acrobatics i think we will definitely skip. my husband is not a big fan of this sort of things, and based on what woolf states, we don't want to promote this.
In Yangshuo, we will see... seems a bit too long to my taste, but some of the scenes seem quite beautiful, so, who knows. We migjt end up going.
thanks again for your comments.
