from san carlos to ometepe

Hi I am planning to go tomorrow to Nicaragua from Costa Rica, and was thinking of going from san jose (costa rica) to peñas blancas(CR) and from there to San Carlos (Nicaragua) and Ometepe (Nicaragua). I was wondering if it could be a good idea to do it that way, or if it is risky or the boat takes too long, or if it could be better just to go direct to granada or rivas and from there reach ometepe, can someone advised me about it please? i would love to have as many hints as possible, thanks a lot!

Consider taking another route if you like travelling by boat and doing something different: San Jose, Los Chiles, by boat across the Rio Frio to San Carlos, from here the nightboat to Ometepe, continuing to Granada by boat or bus.....have fun

Agree, you would need to go via Los Chiles CR to San Carlos, otherwise, just go Liberia>Border>Rivas>San Jorge>ferry to Ometepe would be much faster and easier.
