Backpack or suitcase?
Hi TT!So I'm leaving on Tuesday for a month-long trip around the UK and Ireland. I'm going to be hostelling and travelling by public transportation. The thing is, I'm not sure if I should take my backpack (A 60L) or a suitcase. I've done 2 4-month-long trips in the past, through Europe and the Middle East, and it was really handy having a backpack then, because I'd occasionally have to travel significant distances between train/bus stations and hostels, on bumpy/cobblestone/gravel roads. But this time, travelling in what I'm going to go out on a limb and say is probably a very tourist-friendly area, I'm not sure that I need it.
Now, I love my backpack, I really do, but in terms of convenience and organization, I think it would be nicer to have a suitcase (don't have to dig around to find things, stuff doesn't get bunched up in a corner, etc.). But it kinda feels weird to be a hosteller aka "backpacker" and be taking a suitcase... Anyway, I'd love to hear some opinions!
Thanks!

Hi - I use both a backpack and wheelie case, depending on my destination nowadays. As a pointer, take a look at sites that talk about 'What and what not to pack'. It's really intriguing stuff.
You'll be surprised at how much smaller a backpack you need, be it a week, month - or even longer.
Oh - and as a little PS.... Cross-post your request on to the 'Activities and Gear' branch,
Good luck with everything.

Hi it depends on the destination that you choose that what will be suitable for you . Usually i take both with me when i travel to UK last year. I booked the hotel before reaching to UK and it helped me allot. As i was provided a cab at the airport from the hotel that i booked.travel to the UK

The type of luggage one owns maybe inflationary.Service personnel should expect a larger tip from a suitcase owner than a rucksack/pack wearer.
Walking large distances, e,g. half a day or more, are out for the suitcase and an option for the RS/P user.
At anytime during a trip is the tourist considering walking between towns or along easy/medium way-marked paths than the rucksack should be considered as it provides more options for the wearer.
I have a few questions.
When did 'Rucksack' change to 'Pack'?
I was a sports tourist in Yorkshire in July 1991. I used an external frame rucksack. How late was I for been untrendy?
When was the latest date anyone has seen an external frame rucksack been worn?
