September trip for

going to Bucharest on 9/7 for 2 nights then to Sibiu, Brasov, Maramures, Cluj and need to take the train to be in Prague on 9/15. Looks like Orodea is best train station for trip to Prague. Would like to stay in agrotourist houses. Any ideas on where to stay and/or which train station to leave from?
Also, like to walk, eat and see all things Romanian.

Thanks!

I know of a few villages and families to stay with around Brasov and Sibiu - I'll send details over PM. Two other posters on here (Rob and Matjis) know Maramures really well.

Perhaps you would find this ground breaking program of interest (in Transylvania near Brasov and Cluj)

NGO community development program offering Gypsy-house guesthouse accommodations and/or in-house accommodations - with Rroma and Gypsies

Hi, about staying in Maramures, there are a lot of 'pensiunea'. For more information about this and info on the area this is a nice website: http://www.visitmaramures.ro/. Also there are 2 hostels, one in Sighet and one in Breb.

There are bus services to Cluj, direct or via Baia Mare, and also a train from Sighet to Cluj (which is nice but takes a lot longer than the bus).

Have a good trip,
Matthijs

There is a bus from across the bridge from Sighet in the village of Slatina (Ukraine) which goes to Prague. I believe it goes three times per week but i dont have any more details. Its hard to get solid information from over there especially as there is no actual bus station. The bus apparently goes from Rahiv to Prague via Slatina.
