Where to Stay, Roatan

Hi Fellow Travellers,

Sorry in advance to post this ubiquitous question, don't pummel me verbally.

We are a few couples and friends looking to rent a house on Roatan over Christmas/New Years. Which is the best beach/area for us to stay, we'd like to be on a beautiful beach close to snorkelling, but we'd like to be close to the parties (not too close, but walking distance) any advice?

thanks

I'm a homeowner (and renter in Roatán). Unfortunately, our home is booked over the holidays, so this isn't a sales pitch. However, I think you'll find a bunch of useful info at our website to make your decision.

Here's the link: www.coralvistaroatan.com.

There's also good info at the following: www.roatanlifevacationrentals.com and www.tourismroatan.com.

The short answer to your question (although admittedly biased) is: stay in West End. The "problem" is that there aren't a ton of house rentals on the water there. But for your first time in Roatán, West End is the place to stay, West Bay is the place to visit (5 minute water taxi, $3 from West End).

Hope this helps. Good luck.

I have to second West End. Restaurants, nightlife and enjoyable. West Bay is more isolated and if you like it.....more of the condo thing.

The river tells no lies; yet the dishonest man, standing on the bank, still hears them.

This place has small villas, its lovely, and short walk into West End. No beach though, but you can swim/snorkel off the rocks.

Down the road is the Sea Grape. Old school but on the water, very low key, 2 min walk past above place, 5 min to West End..
