Campervan overnights

Can anyone recommend some good overnight stay spots on the Melbourne to Sydney coast route taking in Kangaroo Valley, Wilsons Prom and Philip Island- doesn't have to be official campsites as we'll have toilet and shower facilities on board. Chiefly we don't want to plan our trip around campsites. Any good spots in Sydney as may decide to keep going to Port Stephens so we can take in the Hunter Valley and don't know if friends there have a large driveway! If relevant we're in our 50's, have never campervanned so fulfilling a life time wish but love the outdoors and a bit of adventure so what better place but to novice in Australia. We'll be travelling in December 2013 and yes we know we have to book our van early.

I assume you mean Kangaroo Valley near Nowra in NSW.
There is great camping area called Kangaroo Valley Tourist Park where you can park your van. It's right next to the Hampden bridge. On a good evening you will be able to see platypus along the banks of the river.

Phillip Island can be busy. There are quieter spots towards Cape Liptrap, Walkerville South & Wonthaggi & in the nearby hills. At Wilson's prom including "kangaroo valley," camping is by permit only, or not allowed at all in some parts (see Vic. Govt. websites.) Have a look around national parks in the Mallacoota & Genoa River areas (ask the locals where to see the water dragons - a type of large aquatic lizard) in far-eastern coastal Victoria, just South of the New South Wales border, for some lovely spots for camping. Watch out for ticks in the Mallacoota region.. Most of Victoria is tick free, but South-East Vic. is not and neither is NSW nor Queensland. (paralysis ticks.) Also do not paddle bare-legged in the shallow, brackish & calm estuary waters at Mallacoota, or you could catch a nasty dose of "pelican itch." South & East Victoria has some world-class scenery and attractions, so enjoy - especially Mallacoota & nearby ocean beaches. Some good & scenic boat trips are to be had around the lakes and inlets there.

PS - When north of Newcastle - the Mayall Lakes are a must-visit and also Seal Rocks (a small town) further North along the coast is worth a look-see.

Be aware that some of your inpomtu neighbours might not like a camper in their street day in day out over several days, human ones.

At Wilson's prom including "kangaroo valley,"
that's just a dirt track is it not? Is there a campsite there?

Try this website for free (or very cheap) campsites. You could also get a copy of Camps 6. Yes it's expensive but it saves a fortune in caravan park fees.
