1The boats from Maroantsetra are expensive - 150 euro at least is normal.
It is possible to trek down to Tampolo and Ambodiforaha where visits start from in about three days. That is naturally much cheaper, but of course it takes much more time there and back.
Local people use a pirogue service for much of the way, but the park guides are reluctant to take tourists on this as they consider it dangerous.
To cut down on accommodation costs, it is possible to camp in the grounds of Tampolodge. The camping fee includes the right to use showers and toilets.

3Wow! Just looked at flights to Maroantsetra from Tana in November. €400 return! Is that the going rate? Masoala sure looks like an expensive place to get to if you've then got an expensive boat fare on top.
Bags feeling light?
Coffee table looking bare?
