Washington DC Hotel

Looking for a hotel for a 3 night stay at the end of a 2 week road trip. Don't mind if it's a bit away from the sights as long as it's got decent public transport link. Would like it to be in nice area with bars restaurants nearby. Budget about $150 per night.
Any recommendations?
Thanks
Mike

That budget and goal will require some searching but isn't impossible. Try Dupont Circle (Tabbard Inn?) and Woodley Park areas first, but you'll probably need to look further out. If you do, try along the Metro orange line in No Va, or in Silver Spring or Bethesda. Or Alexandria.

What dates? Prices generally higher on weekdays than weekends, and can vary by season. You don't mention what kind of hotel you're looking for. On our last two trips we stayed in Rosslyn for under that, both booking directly (on a weekend; weekdays were just above) and using Priceline/Hotwire. Recently got a 3 1/2 star in Arlington-Crystal City for $90 plus taxes and fees. Downside is you don't know your hotel's name/location (and distance to Metro Rail) ahead of time. If you have a car, bank on parking cost of $10-25 (more if downtown DC).

A few miles in Alexandria, VA is the Best Western Old Colony Inn which has a complimentary shuttle
to the nearby Metro station. You can see colonial Alexandria just a few blocks away and DC is about 3
miles away-- the metro ride into DC is like a tour in itself.

I stayed at the Hotel Harrington in the mid-70s. It was a low cost option then. Good location, but you'd have several options under $150. I don't think you'd have to go further out than Arlington. I lived in Silver Spring and liked it, but it is a bit further out.

Priceline should be able to get you something for that much, assuming you don't have a car to worry about parking.

Otherwise, stay in Arlington. I've stayed at the Courtyard Marriott Rosslyn, which is in walking distance of the Metro (4/10 of a mile), but there aren't bars or restaurants in that area. You can sometimes get $100/night rates. Parking is $10. http://www.marriott.com/hotels/maps/travel/wasar-courtyard-arlington-rosslyn/
