Best US City for a couple of days

Hiya

I am travelling to Kansas for work and on the way there and back can choose a city to stop over in over night.

I'd like to visit two different places (one on the way and one on my return journey) preferably two very different places.

They need to have an international airport and be something I can experience a quick taste of in two days/one night.

I'll be travelling alone and would like somewhere I can just enjoy walking round seeing the sights, seeing a taste of a proper American city.

Any suggestions for which city to choose/things to do there in two days would be much appreciated xxx

Easy, New York and San Francisco. West coast only would be San Francisco and Seattle or Portland or San Diego. East Coast would be New York, Boston, Washington DC and Miami.

Since your profile says you are from the xUK, I'm assuming you are heading back that way. I'd suggest an eastern city.

With only two days and one night, I'd say xPittsburgh.
Unfortunately, airlines don't tend to use it as a convenient stopover city.

In that case, DC or xMiami.

Are you locked into an airline? That will limit your choices to their hubs. If British the choices increase since you have all of theirs plus American's. I'd probably choose Boston and Chicago but alternatives Include Miami and New York. With United it'd probably Washington and Chicago.

NYC is the funnest and coolest...

Chicago is easy and close to KC.

Boston is a good time...

DC is a lot of museums and history...

West coast is too far...

To bad you aren't able to make it to the west coast. Compton is a proper American city. There you can see the real America and it has so many must do things.

I'll throw in Philadelphia, just in case the OP is considering US Airways.

Boston is a very walkable city, where you should be able to see most of the sights in a couple of days and have a world-wide selection of cuisines to keep you going. Lots of American history on the Freedom Trail, lively club scene, whatever interests you.

Boston is a good choice for a couple day visit because it's easy to see by foot and the airport is really easy and cheap to get to and from so you won't have to waste much time which will help if you're only going for a couple days.
With only two days I'd literally "just walk around" Beacon Hill, The North End and Back Bay and take things as they come.

Chicago, hands down. Not only are the locals friends, so are the cops!

Chicago Hotels in the thick of it, can also be much cheaper and easier to find than in NYC/Boston/DC.

There is a afforible Days Inn on lakeshore, not to far from Soldiers Field. Plus, ever weekend they usually host festiveles in Grant Park, Jazz Fest, Blues fest, Taste of Chicago. John Belushi's favorite hotel is also there, The Montclaire, but it is pricey

I would definitely include Chicago. Then one east coast city--I prefer DC or Boston over NYC, but it's a personal decision.

New Orleans and New York (Manhattan that is) are two very different places.
