Accomodation for three does not have to be too cheap

We are 2 adults with one 14 year old daughter. We are stopping over in Singapore for 3 nights from 24th December this year after a 5 week trip in India so want somewhere just to chill out. We have been to Singapore three times for similar stopovers and dont mind paying about $600 for the three nights.. we would like b,fast included but this seems really hard to get at this price. Also a pool would be nice but again seems hard to find for under $1000.
We have previously stayed at the Perak which is good but depends on the room they give you. Also stayed at Golden Chain? ( previously Golden Landmark) near Arab street but this has become so much more expensive..

Our travel agent has us booked at Grand Pacific which is in a good area but $1000 and no b.fast... can anybody suggest anything else for cheaper.. as we can cancel this booking..
It does seem hard to even find a room for 3. I have done lots of searching...

Appreciate any feedback and advice..cheers Jen Andrew and Tara

Suggest that you forget about using a travel agent and book online yourself. Try Agoda or Asiarooms there seem to be lots of 4star places with two double beds for well under $200 Aus a night for you dates, I just had a quick look. You can also use TripAdivsor to check places out as well compare prices.

Personaly I prefer not to pay for a hotel (usually buffet) breakfast in Singapore, as there is so much better food options eating with the locals! Better food and pretty low prices.

Thanks for the info and the quick reply.. have been looking lots at trip advisor and looking for prices but they seem to be so much more expensive when you add the extra person.. If you can recommend any you have found Id be grateful and also I dont mind booking online.. i do agree with the good food in singapore. sometimes though it is nice just to have it all there without going out and some of the b'fast in hotels are quite extensive and nice selection of Asian foods. Regards Jen ... will keep on looking at the sites you suggested... :)

I think your biggest problem is those dates. Because so many of the hotels have a peak period surcharge, its hard to guage how much extra they would be charging.

If you dont mind staying out of the center then I can recommend The Riders Lodge in Bukit Timah - its a 5 mins walk to the bus stop and then 20-30 mins on the bus downtown - Singapore doesnt stop at Christmas so you will get a regular service.
They have room over Christmas/currently 142 per room they charge 50 for extra bed and breakfast though no pool :-(
or with pool
YMCA Y hotel - Stevens road
Fort canning Lodge (also YMCA)

Robertson Quay hotel

all under 160 SGD a night through Agoda????

I think your mistake is choosing Singapore for Christmas.

Spend the extra time in a nice hotel in one of the more developed parts of India, and your wallet will be laughing. Or switch the stopover to Bangkok, KL or Hong Kong.

I can second #5 and the Fort Canning YWCA suggestion. Family rooms are decent ($200-ish), the pool's a good size and overlooks the park, b'fast included, location's great for river and waterfront, museums, Orchard Rd and walkable to Little India and Arab St. I've stayed there several times, it's always been pretty much full with a real mix of international and local/regional tourists and business people, plus an eclectic array of church groups having meetings (Africans dressed in fab traditional gear the last time I was there). It's absolutely not flash but a comfortable reliable standby.

Singapore hotels are very experienced with setting prices. Normally you are not going to find a great deal --- you will get what you pay for. Singapore is NOT cheap. The city is growing into an international city like Hong Kong and New York. I have stayed at a dozen different hotels in the Hotel 81 chain of accommodations. Hotel 81 Dickerson is classified as budget, but the quality and service are better than some high class hotels.

There are many places in SE Asia where you can find great hotels for very reasonable price. Splurge someplace else. In Singapore a "budget hotel" is generally more than comfortable. Tough to justify the high prices for a few more amenities. My opinion.

Hello, you may check V Hotel Lavender. This is a recent hotel, they do have Triple rooms (double bed + single bed) and an outdoor pool. They have competitive rates making the hotel very busy, a lot of tours stay there. The hotel is located on top of Lavender mrt station, a 15min ride from City Hall. http://www.vhotel.sg/accomodation.html

you may also check the Singapore Recreation Club located at City Hall: http://www.src.org.sg/

YWCA Fort Canning is well located as it is near Dhoby Ghaut station a major junction with 3 mrt lines: http://nof.ywca.org.sg/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=107&Itemid=97

Hope this helps...

I dont particularly like hotels that cater to tour groups-- usually extremely noisy with crowded public areas.

At your budget, I would recommend the Carlton Hotel. www.carlton.sg. Expect around SGD230/night - discounts if you book in advance. Basic, clean, mid-level hotel, excellent location.
The Grand Pacific (old Allson) is OK, but for SGD333/night, you can get much better quality hotels! (Grand Pacific across the road from Carlton)

Try the M Hotel.

Don't worry about included breakfasts. You can get great food at cheap prices at foodcourts / hawker centres.

If you're flying on SQ, you can try to get a stop-over holiday included in your flight. The hotels are generally discounted.

Otherwise, try www.agoda.com

Commenting on other posts:
The YWCA is not at Doby Ghaut. That's the YMCA. The YWCA is a good walk from there.
V-Lavender is reasonably new, but cheaply built and full of tour groups.
Wotif is generally very bad for SG hotels.
Golden Landmark should probably be avoided if you have a SGD1k budget.

Hi, my family and I, (2 adults 1 child) just stopped over at Singapore just 2 weeks back. We were only here for 1 night, and stayed at a hotel next to Changi Expo MRT station, called Capri by Fraser. The place is brand new and service was really great, and comes with a nice gym, pool, and launderette.Fits just nicely under your budget too.
