be careful if you are ARRIVING BY TICA BUS

hola amigos,
just lettn yous know that if you are arriving in SAN JOSE with TICA BUS, the TICA BUS TERMINAL HAS MOVED !
my bus arrived at 10.30pm and i decidied not to take a taxi since i had memorized the map in my lonely planet guide for Central America.
After walking for 15 minutes and asking a few people i realised that i was nowhere near where i shouldve been, lucky i found a random hostel which turned out to be pretty cheap and the staff were super friendly. The new Tica bus terminal is somewhere ? north west of the main hospital. Theres absolutely NO STREET SIGNS in San Jose so you maybe should take a taxi. After saying all that San Jose was awesome and i found it a very entertaining city for someone who dont like big cities, but then again i was only there for 1 day. Safe travels amigos, Dan

please, don't ever try to save a few bucks by walking anywhere in san jose at 10:30 at night. the small cost of a taxi to your destination is worth 1,000 more than the risk of being mugged/robbed/beaten up or shot.

you were just lucky when you got lost that you found some helpful people and not the other kind.

The Ticabus terminal has been at the new location since several years now.

Ticabus terminal location in San Jose:
200 metros al norte y 100 metros al oeste de Torre Mercedes, Paseo Colón, frente a la Funeraria del Magisterio Nacional

i would not really rely on a guidebook for specific information as to bus schedules or where bus terminals are located, etc. things change all the time. plus, the information in a guide book is typically a year old the day it is published! for giving a general view of a country and how to get around, the currency, things to do, the culture, etc -- a guidebook is fine. but i would not depend on it for all kinds of information.
