Jost Van Dyke for New Year's Eve 2012-13 from USVI

I'll be in St. John/St. Thomas for NYE 2012-13 and I was thinking about taking a ferry over to the party on Jost Van Dyke. I see that ferries regularly connect STJ/STT to JVD but my question is how practical will it be for me to get over there early on new years eve and return sometime after midnight? will the ferries be returning people home that late/early? It doesn't appear that there is anywhere I can stay overnight, as the ferries say they are not running new year's day (so I'd have to stay till the 2nd if I did). does anyone know anything about other ferries running on new years day?

or would it be just as nice or nicer to just stay on St. John?

thanks for the advice...

There are private go-fast boats that go from St Thomas to Jost and back well after the regular commercial ferries stop running. It's usually about $125 per person, customs fees not included. They usually go every hour, probably until 3 am. If you can book early there are cottages at Ivans where you can crash...or just sleep on the beach. I don't really forsee ferries NOT running New Years Day, but if you choose the private 'water taxi' option then you can get back before sunrise.

I will warn you it can be quite the melee but also a lot of fun. Many of the bars accept only cash, so be aware of that.

I was just looking for ferry info on New Years from Jost to Tortola and couldn't find much. I did manage to talk to a lady that lives on Jost that said ferrys run all day and night every 30 minutes. Other forums say that you could wait up to 24 hours just because of the crowds trying to get back .
I noticed your post was from July, have you found out anything since then?
