Booking tickets on RZD.ru with foreign cards?
Hey all. I'm trying to book tickets on the RZD.ru website with American issued credit cards. One is Verified by Visa, the other has a Mastercard Securecode, and yet trying to book with either keeps getting me an error message of 'Unable to verify card' once I go through the booking & payment pages.Now, I know someone who DID book tickets through RZD with a foreign card, so it should be possible - but that was a few months ago. Could this be a new change with RZD? Has anyone -recently- booked tickets with foreign issued cards?
I want to know what to tell my banks if they suggest (again) that the Russian site doesn't accept foreign cards ;)

I booked SPB to Moscow tickets on RZD.RU on Monday with a foreign credit card - Irish Mastercard to be precise so it's definitely possible. Trying contacting your bank - perhaps they have a block on it because its a Russian merchant?2
You might check with the OP in this post: Booking ticket via rzd.ruI can't recall anyone reporting difficulty recently. Perhaps there is some other problem.

Honestly, I don't know what the problem is. I spoke to both of my banks, explained that I was booking through a Russian website, was told that there were no restrictions against the website and that my accounts were given the highest level of security clearance, and still it's a no-go. Even tried on different computers / browsers and nothing!I guess the problem is in the RZD site itself - sometimes I get to the Mastercard Securecode or Verified by Visa page before the rejection, other times it bypasses those sites entirely and goes straight to the rejection. Maybe it's just a server error that will clear up in a few days, but who knows!

As far as I can tell, RZD's payment processor isn't processing US-issued Visa or Mastercards. They don't seem to be aware of this, and they falsely claim that the cards don't "support full 3D secure" (i.e. Verified by Visa or Mastercard Securecode).My cards worked as late as May 2012. Sometime after that, RZD apparently stopped processing all US-issued cards. This has affected both myself and at least two separate people I know.
This would appear to be a violation of the Visa and Mastercard merchant rules, but I have not had any success so far even getting them to acknowledge that the problem exists.
