You could take the train as well, get off in Bang Sue and subway from there. Or train all the way to Hualamphog and then to subway. Might even save a handful of sadang...:-)
Or shuttle bus to Suvannabhumi, then airport link to sky train...bit of sight seeing...
Sadly no option involving a scenic river boat...they are not running anymore at that time...

I took the taxi, it was on 2nd August, Thai holiday, Bangkok was dead. Got there in about 20 minutes!
