Don Muang to Asok

Any other viable option other than a taxi at 7pm at night?

Bus 29 or 510 both go to Chatuchak. Change to subway or BTS.

Walk to northern end of terminal one, then a bit further and bus stop on the main road on the left.
Past the parking lot there with tourist police cars and buses. Walk on the highway side, not on parking lot side.

^and that is the best advice. There are a few other buses but the numbers escape me at the moment.

You could take the train as well, get off in Bang Sue and subway from there. Or train all the way to Hualamphog and then to subway. Might even save a handful of sadang...
:-)
Or shuttle bus to Suvannabhumi, then airport link to sky train...bit of sight seeing...
Sadly no option involving a scenic river boat...they are not running anymore at that time...
:-)

I took the taxi, it was on 2nd August, Thai holiday, Bangkok was dead. Got there in about 20 minutes!
