Maldives in Oct/Nov - manta season?? Which is better?

Hi TTers,

Looking into a liveaboard in October/November - realize this is somewhat low season because of the monsoons, but also one of the best times to go due to high levels of plankton.

Question is: any difference from October to November? Prices seem to jump by hundreds one month to the next, and am guessing it's due to better chances of weather - and not increased chances of pelagic sightings?

Look forward to your insights!

Tiffani

So far as the weather is concerned I would not worry too much. It will probably rain quite hard from time to time but there will be plenty of sunshine as well in October. November generally is cloudier. I am afraid I am no expert on monthly diving conditions however www.scubascuba.com has a useful resource called Liveaboard Trip Reports for the past few years.

There may be some information here that will help you make your decision.
Have a great holiday!

I can't comment on Oct or Nov but I did a liveaboard in Aug, which is peak "manta season" and my brother did one in April which is allegedly not "manta season". As far as I could tell, he still had excellent manta sightings and better luck with whale sharks than I did. I'm not a photographer but he had some lovely photos- better than it would have been possible to get on my trip as the high plankton levels reduced the visibility.
