September in Uvita---am I nuts?
I have been reading up on all the posts and have gotten a lot of good information---thank you to all of you helpful posters! I will be going to CR in midAugust to midSeptember. This isn't my first time in CR, but I haven't been to the Pacific coast in a long time and it was earlier in the year, so the weather wasn't an issue. After a bit of traveling around, I was thinking about volunteering at one of the organic farms (Finca Carolina) outside of Uvita for about a week and exploring the area. In your considered opinions, should I pick somewhere less rainy at that time? Will there be any chance of seeing the whales? I know rain shouldn't be a problem for them, but will it be too rough to go out in a boat? I know there are no guarantees of anything with nature, but I'd like the opinions of those more knowledgeable about the area than I am. Thanks in advance!1
There really is know way to know how much it will rain in Uvita or anywhere else in CR in that time period, just expect rains in the afternoons.I dont know about when the whales are migrating up the coast there, maybe write a lodge down there that offers tours for what months are best.
But if you want to see whales, then thats the place that best positioned.

for typical rainfall patterns, look here: http://costa-rica-guide.com/Weather/WeatherMap.html from this, you can see that it is likely to be very rainy at that time. the rain could be: all day, off and on all day, afternoon or evening or just a cloudy day. you might get a sunny day now and then.hard to know about the whales - but - if it is important to you to see them, then it's a good place to be. take a look here: http://www.tikivillas.com -- one possibility for lodging and the website has lots of information about excursions.
whether it will be too rough for boats to go out is anybody's guess. it doesn't really have that much to do with the rain as it does the weather systems in the area at that time that and what kind of wind there is.

While it's hard to say about the weather in September, I can recommend Finca Carolina, where I have volunteered with Andrew to learn more about permaculture principals. He has a great farm, and I think you will have a good experience, just expect some afternoon downpours and muddy soil.Pura Vida, Ballardo
