3 maybe 4 days on Vancouver Island
I'm visiting my parents out in Powell River, BC this October and decided I'd like to spend a few days exploring the area on my own. My first idea seems to be to cross over to Comox on Vancouver Island, rent a car and pootle around the Island for a few days (I've been to Victoria, Nanaimo, Tofino before).I have three or four days and was thinking of exploring Strathcona Provincial Park. I enjoy hiking and mountainous scenery (but I'm no rock climber). I've decent hiking gear (boots/waterproofs, etc.) and can handle a map and compass well. But I don't really want to camp and get involved on multi day hikes . . . I'd like somewhere with a variety of good day hikes, and with hotel/lodge/B&B accomodation nearby. I also wouldn't mind some ocean/strait view hikes/activities.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Have you previously explored around Powell River? If not, there's lots to occupy a few days there without heading over to the island. Lund, Savary Island, Copeland Islands, Okeover Arm, Texada Island, Inland Lake, Eagle Falls, etc..

I'm staying with my folks in Powell River for a few days at the beginning and end of my trip, and I'll poke around its environs then. What I'm looking for is something to occupy myself with for a while on my own.But thanks for the suggestion around Powell River - I'll definitely look into some of those.

lots of options in Strathcona. Stay at Strathcona Park Lodge and make friends with all the cool outdoor leaders who work there, ask for suggestions, you might even find someone with a day off to go with you :o). and/or Bamfield maybe if you want something more off the beaten track? also quite a few hiking options west of Victoria - East Sooke Park, Juan de Fuca trail, "Avatar Grove" near Port Renfrew......ADVERTISEMENT
