Motorbikes In HCMC (Saigon)

I am currently in HCMC and looking to buy a motorbike to ride up to Hanoi. Does anybody know of any for sale? Or know a reputable shop to get used bikes from?

Cheers,

Not a good idea-check out some posts on riding a motorbike on that route.

Try Craiglist Vietnam

That would be here

http://vietnam.craigslist.org/mca

Also see this new site

http://saigonbikes.weebly.com

When you click on the "Add to Cart" button, does the motorbike get delivered to your hotel!?

Dont like the look of that new website, it tells you nothing about who owns and runs it

Yes, best to arrange to meet a dealer directly on location, buy nothing online.

Bikes, brand new or second hand are easily available and negotiable.

Thanks for all the replies. Ended up getting a bike off craiglslist. Quite a few options on there.
Just been on my first days Vietnam riding. Did Saigon to Mui Nei today. Was quite a nice ride. Got about 4 weeks to get myself slowly up to Hanoi now! :-)
Thanks again

Check your insurance carefully!

Insurance is fine. I knew I would be doing the trip so I made sure I had appropriate cover. Even got myself a Vietnamese driving license. Thanks for the concern though Mooslie, I appreciate that it's a pretty crazy thing to do. I've seen a few bad accidents out here (one fatal) so i'm going to be taking it very carefully. I've got a fair bit of experience riding in foreign countries having done long distance rides in India, Thailand, Laos and Indonesia. Other than that I think it's down to luck (thats the part I don't like).

How did you get a license so quick,is it one of those special ones that you can buy.

Are you suggesting that a fake driver's license for Vietnam is now included in the motorbike purchase price?

HeHe. No it is an official one. It's pretty easy to get if you have a motorbike license in the UK and a little while to spare running around various government offices in Saigon. Took about 3 days for translation of my Uk paperwork (but that was over a weekend) and then 7 days for the Ministry of transport to issue the license.

..... I'm pretty sure I'm never going to need it, but it's interesting none the less.
