Working in the Cyclades

Hi,

I have just returned from a brilliant trip to Santorini. I wanted to stay!

I have done some research and have found out that I am more likely to get a job (bar work) if I were to go there early season end of April start of May. I plan to do this next year.

My questions are:

1. What should I do for accommodation? I had thought about staying in a hostel for a few nights until I got settled though it would be good to have a 1 bed (cheap) apartment to rent for the season. If in Santorini ideally in Fira and if in Ios i'd like to stay in the main town. I have had a look online but they all seam to be luxurious holiday rentals. Any contacts or website recommendations for my purposes would be appreciated.

2. I have only visited Santorini in the Cyclades - any other Greek island recommendations?

3. I've heard the pay is about £500 euro per month - is this correct and would this be sufficient to cover accommodation?

Can I just add that I am interested in Santorini and Ios however if anyone could suggest other islands i'd be interested to hear any advice. I want to stay away from 'Brits abroad' kind of places - I don't mind touristy (Santorini is so touristy) but I don't want to work near package holiday resorts (Malia in Crete, for example) I've heard Mykonos is a bit like this too??

Any help and tips would be much appreciated

Lyndsay

Hi

A bar job will be payed around 30 euros per day which makes it around 900 euros per month. Then you will have some tips also. A room or small apartment will be around 300 per month in Santorini and you will have to stay a bit outside of Fira or Firostefani where the cheaper rental apt are located. Best is if you can afford to come early to the island, beginning of April, find a place to stay but be prepared on that you probably won't start working until beginning of May when the night life starts to be more busy.

Hi,

Thanks so much for your reply. I think I will go early season in that case.
