Bus travel Panama to Nicaragua
I am planning a bus trip from David, Panama to Nicaragua. One option would be to take the Tracopa bus to San Jose and then the Pulmita-Liberia bus to Liberia and Penas Blancas. Could someone tell me where the Pulmita terminal is and how far from the Tracopa terminal? I thought I'd try to make it as far as Liberia the first day. Overnight there and then take a morning bus to Penas Blancas. Are there any other bus companies besides Pulmita? I am not Interested in Tica or Nica. Also, are there any recommendations for a backpacker's place near Pulmita in case I do not make connections?..1
the pulmitan bus station is not near tracopa. your best bet is to grab a taxi at the tracopa station and tell the driver you want the bus for liberia.i don't think you really want to do the david, panama to liberia, costa rica in one day. do you really want to spend that much time on the bus? check here: http://www.thebusschedule.com it's over 8 hours from david to san jose, not including your time at the border. it's another 4 hours to liberia.
i think it would be better to spend the night in san jose and then start out for the border the next morning. you can get a bus from san jose to penas blancas at the border at the deldu bus station. once again, just tell a taxi driver you want the bus for penas blancas and he will take you to the correct station.
a couple of hostels i've stayed at in san jose are gaudy's backpackers (quiet) and tranquilo backpackers (less quiet but still not a big party place). there's also the hotel musoc which is not far from tracopa.
