10 days trip - Mekong Delta w/ home stay, and trekking. any advice?
Hey there,I hope to get some good tips and recommendations here. :) Me and my gf are gonna fly into HCMC (from S' Pore) on August 11, with Tigerairways. We land around 8am. And leave from HCMC to Cebu, Philippines on the 21st.
I tried to make a little intinerary, but I can not really tell how much time to spend where.
So that's what we came up with:
11.- 13. August: Getting around HCMC, staying at some back packers
13.8. - 17.8. leaving in the early afternoon to Mekong Delta. We would love to do a home stay for 2 nights and 2 nights at a back packers. We heard Can Tho should be fine, but we need still accomodation there. didnt find any backpakers. so maybe have to take a hotel? So how do we get in contact with people for a home stay? should we book in advance somewhere ot try to do it right when we get there - maybe in HCMC. What we hope for in mekong delta are the rice fields, a boat tour and the water markets. and of course the nature. :)
Now comes the part we are not sure about: We would like to see Phan Tiet/Mui Ne, but dont have to. Since we've only 4 days left and the bus ride is quite long to get there. So we were thinking, maybe just spend all the time around the Mekong Delta? Doing a 2 or 3 days trekking trip would be nice, too. Then we could easily go back to HCMC on the 20th. Or is a whole week in the Delta too long?
With the 10 days we are all flexible. So if u have any better suggestions, what we def. have to see or changes that u recommend, We're happy to hear from you. :) If the places would not be too touristy, that would be a big plus. :)
thanks already!

In Vietnam, rather than backpackers, look out for hotels. You should be able to get good ones for about US$254
make mekong delta tour and choose homestay5
alright, thanks for the help so far. so chau doc, also sounds really nice. is it easy to get there from HCMC? and does anybody have any sugestions for a 2 or 3 nights home stay there? also any recommendations for a hotel there? should we book in advance or is walk-in ok?im sorry for all the questions.
i think if we go to chau doc, we dont have time to go to dalat then. we'll rather stay in chau doc then and enjoy a stressfree and exciting time there.

Hi Alwes,Cantho is fine, if you come here I can arrange a homstay for you or you can check Hung's homestay in tripadviser. Cantho also has rice fields and floating markets too. Chau Doc has floating village but transporting from HCM city to Chau Doc is not convinent as to Cantho. If you need more info just ask me.

Can Tho to Chau Doc - just ask a taxi driver for the bus station for Can Tho. He'll take you to the right bus. Just get on and they'll collect tickets enroute. A more interesting trip might be by boat up the Mekong, but I'm not sure whether there are cheap passenger boats now. The increased ownership of motorcycles has ruined the passenger boat business in many places. You could take a tour boat, but that would be many times more expensive.9
While prices (of hotels, tours etc) might be quoted in US$ you can pay in VN Dong.($1 = about 21,000 VND). We took US$ for the visa on arrival, a few extra just in case, then got all the VND we needed from ATMs and/or paid hotels etc with CC. It is hard to get VND outside of Vietnam.
