Iran Visa on Arrival for Italian citizens

Hi everyone,

I've been reading posts here but just wanted to share my story and some questions. I applied for a visa with IranianVisa.com 2 weeks ago (w/ expedited service) and they still have not sent my pre-approval code despite claiming one half the normal processing time of 7-10days . I have never used a visa service before but I figured it was best in this case due to the difficulties possible with a VOA.

It is now two weeks before I go so things are a bit tight and I do not see possibly obtaining a visa in time. So I think VOA is now the only option.

I will be staying with an old friend in Tehran and traveling there on an Italian passport from Germany. Will it be easy to get a VOA? Is there anything I should do/not do to be careful? I plan on having his address and phone number with me. Should I have a letter from him asking me into Iran? I am a dual citizen, American and Italian. I won't mention my USA citizenship but might that be a problem? I only speak English.

Thank you!

Well, after starting a PayPal dispute they immediately mailed me my visa number. I will let everyone know how it goes. I just sent my passport to the embassy so I will know soon.

Hi keystone.
Your case is indeed very interesting. Yes, let's us especially me know how it goes. U should have called the embassy though before sending them your passport to make sure they had already received your visa authorization number from MFA in tehran. You may do so tomorrow morning however if u wish.
Good luck.amir

PS for VOA, yes, Tehran airport immigration will more than likely call and wake up your Iranian friend, even at 3am, to ask him how he knows you and if he is willing to 'sponsor' you.... and if he did not, u would be deported right after!. Meanwhile, other lucky travelers just go through however. It is case by case basis or so they claim.

Great, I received it! The DC embassy was a pleasure to work with. They replied to my emails quickly and processed the application (for an extra fee) the day is arrived, and sent it back with overnight delivery.

Hi,

My husband is Italian and we are planing to go to Iran to visit my family there. Since there is no Iranian embassy in the UK anymore I decided to apply for a VOA for my husband. Now there are some travel agencies in Tehran from where my family can apply for a VOA reference code and then we get the VISA stamp when we arrive at the IKA. Although I have called the IKA airport and they assured me he can get a VOA visa (also because he is a spouse of an Iranian citizen) I am not %100 sure. At the same time I can't be bothered to travel to another country to get the visa. Does anyone have the same experience?

Thanks
