Thanks iik
I think I got it.
But where does one enter into the equation:1-Loss of forward motion due to saddle sore distraction.
2-Hang-over quotient.
3-Forward magnetic propulsion to next hang-over activation site.

Its all irrelevant if you are planning to carry camping gear and food. Your bike is going to be heavy and provide very good exercise when going up hills, regardless of what Mr Bubblewrap claims he can tour without :)

We are all pretty careful with what we carry and there are choices where we choose the lighter thing. Eg toothpaste tube size. But there is no hurry and it is not about going faster through being lighter. If you are set up to camp you have a freedom the hotel stayers don't have.
For me there are some trips with front bags and some with just rear bags. Always with a HB bag. The wind resistance plus weight in front bags makes for a very different bike ride, especially in the mountains. With a lighter set-up it is amazing how much you can climb in one day.
On light sleeping pads there is a blow-up one that comes with a bulb pump and weighs I think 300gms and is less than half the volume of a thermorest. Pisses on bubblewrap. Great insulation in cold too.
If it is avoidable weight I will try to avoid it. But the efficency differences in different gear systems is also of some interest.

Mr Bubblewrap is repeating his famous 100 cols tour in about a month. We expect he will come up with some astonishing fundamental findings about hill climbing - the Higgs boson of cycling.

A popular but incorrect assertion. The laws of physics apply however heavily you're loaded.

I agree with #19.#16 is a remarkably common idea. It's a bit like saying "I'm in debt, so it doesn't matter how much more money I spend."
