itnerary advice - Zhongdian to Xinjiang
Hi,I have a 30 days Chinese visa and will enter trough Boten, Laos. I am overlanding to Europe from Singapore and need to exit China at Irkeshtam pass close to Kashgar.
Now, I assume that most of you would say this is impossible etc., but 30 days I have, and unless I extend my visa somewhere, Kyrgyzstan is where I am bound.
I have been in China many time before, and lived there for a while, and have been in most of the popular Yunnanese destination I would breeze through anyhow. I would instead appreciate some advice to make it from Zhongdian to Xinjiang, passing through the Tibet-Sichuan highway.
I was thinking at something like: Zhongdian-Litang-Serxu and up trough Qinghai into Xinjiang.
If anyone has a cool idea for an itinerary from previous experience, please suggestions are very much welcome. I have to stop in Urumqi to pick up my Kyrgyz visa also, so my time will be very limited and mostly dedicated to see the scenery out of the window, unless I find a friendly place where to extend my visa.
Please, do not suggest to fly because this is intended to be an overland trip.
Thanks!

Zhongdian to Chengdu is possible in about 3 days, with stops in Daocheng/Litang and Kangding. The road on the Yunnan side is poor. The road on the Sichuan side is good. However, given the recent unrest (immolations) in the Tibetan parts of Western Sichuan, it is not certain that you will be permitted through. While foreigners are not officially banned, local police checks have been known to turn them away recently.

Thanks. I actually did more reserach and I have a planned itinerary that needs suggestions: the main problem is I read the road Kanding to Litang is closed. in order to avoid backtracking and wasting precious time I was thinking-get to Kunming
- Kunming to Kanding, suggestions needed. I know there is a train to Chengdu stopping at Emei that seems the closes railhead to Kanding, but may I get buses from there? i want to spare myself the Chengdu hassle
- in Kanding, take a bus to tagong
- tagong to Ganzi
if anyone has travelled these regions recently and may reccommend seen the unrest/closures, It would be very helpful.
Thanks!
