ATM in Kenya

Hi All,

Two questions regarding ATM:
1. Can I get US dollars from ATM in Kenya?

2. Is there an ATM in Marsabit?

Thanks,

1. No

2. Yes, there's a Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) ATM in Marsabit. Maybe call ahead to double check.

KCB - Marsabit, Thika Marsabit Road, Box 83-60500, Marsabit, Kenya
Tel: +254692088

1. - highly unlikely, will depend upon which bank & which country your bank account is in;

2.not sure but again highly unlikely - its not really a town, more a locality - I think just the hotel/lodge;

1- A BIG NO

2-At the Kenya Commercial Bank in Marsabit town. But again, the ATM there could be dry. If you are headed north then I advice you do the ATM transaction at either Nanyuki or Isiolo.Both towns have a good number of ATMs.

I wouldn't rely on the KCB's ATM in Marsabit. But Equity Bank's ATM was fine last month.

And incidentally, Marsabit is very much a town - one of the biggest in the north. Marsabit Lodge is a few miles away, inside Marsabit National Park.

Many Kenyan banks will still do manual cash advances from your credit card if the ATM refuses all your cards. It can take half an hour. But like some of the others I advise you to have cash in hand before you go north of Central Kenya.

I can't speak to Marsabit but the KCB bank across from the main post office in Nairobi gave me the choice of US cash or KES. I don't remember if it is all 3 machines or just the one against the far wall as you enter but I am 100% sure about the far machine for my card anyway (as of January 2012).

cheers

OT: personal thanks to people like Richardtrillo and Sandsandi (and too many others to name one at a time) that give so much of their time and experience answering our questions.
