Beaches Perhentian or Tioman or Pangkor

Hi ,
My hubby and i arrive in KL end of July and will be spending approx 10 days before leaving at KL airport.

After some research i found that Penang isn't really a "beach haven" (fail).

Which do you think is better? Perhentian or Tioman or Pangkor.
* Budget is AUD $100-$200 a day for a couple
  • Which would be easier to get to?
  • I have set aside 3-4 days - is there other things to do there too ? Shopping, sightseeing, spa's
  • Food - easy enough to walk in and grab something? or will we require a fishing rod & some matches?
  • Which did you enjoy best?

Any experience you have had is appreciated

Thanks in advance :)

Maybe Langkawi?

For a real beach experience, I would suggest Perhentian Island. Pangkor Island's beach is not that clean and the water is not that crytal clear. Langkawi is also famous for its beautiful beaches and a lot of other activities u can do there.

The beaches in Tioman are really nice. But from KL maybe it's easier to go to Perhentian.
Penang beaches are not worth to see.

Go to Perhentian!

Pangkor, Penang & Langkawi don't come anywhere near Perhentian's atmosphere & beaches. You should try get a cheap seat to Terengganu or Kelantan & hop on the ferries to Perhentian. Easy.

Penang has also nice beaches (National Park) and there you have all the other touristy stuff: shopping, culture, …

OP

How important are the shopping, sightseeing and spas ? :-)

Google Redang, LangTengah, Kapas and Gemia too.

Perhentian plus Redang if you have the time!
food is accessible - your budget more than fine
snorkelling, diving relaxing on the beach.
To me the best clearest calmest water compared to the rest.

**Jonnyon you can fly Berjaya AIr from KLIA to Tioman - this is an option

Langkawi beautiful beaches - which? Only at the top of the island datai bay or Tanjong Rhu nearby all expensive 1000SGD plus accomodation - otherwise would like to know where?

Hi Jonnyon

I have not as from Singapore they are too expensive to get to Tioman (we go car Mersing then Ferry) but Ihave lots and lots of colleagues/friends who fly with them no problems at all they fly out of Changi now - its only 45 mins or so so service no worries....

And i have to correct apparently they fly out of Subang not sure if KLIA or Budget terminal.
Last time on Tioman I met a couple who flew in/out on Berjaya to KL and they paid remarkably less than what it is priced from Singapore (but this is quite typical!)

Another option KL to Perhentian is to take the sleeper train - a nice experience and saves time (and a hotel night cost). See seat61 for details. You don't say what type of beach you are after, but if you want quiet, laid back and close to nature, I would really recommend bubbles.
