Cycling in USAHey Folks
I'm an Irishman due in Santa Barbara for Labor Day weekend 2013 - I'm attending a wedding.
I plan on taking a the month of August off work and cycle in the US.
I would love to role into Santa Barbara on my touring bike on the 26th/27th August.
I have never cycled in the states and I've never been to the West Coast.
Any ideas on good routes to consider?
Anyone like to join me for some of the trip?
All information, suggestions, advice and guidance would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance
An Irish Cyclist

2I had the honor of meeting this guy when he biked through Santa Barbara. His main complaint for California was that there seemed to be a pretty constant and annoying head wind. We have a pretty active cycling community and they may be a very good resource to you. Just don't try to take the short cut over the mountains on the 154. It is not bike friendly, at all.

3The Pacific Coast Highway (aka Highway 1, aka CA State Highway 1) is in fact a very popular bicycle touring route that passes through Santa Barbara, among other cities. It's generally regarded as one of the great scenic highways of the US, whether you drive or ride a bicycle. These folks: http://www.adventurecycling.org/routes/index.cfm can sell you a cycling specific map of the route, whether you start in San Francisco or in LA. With a whole month at your disposal, you could start as far north as you wanted to (Seattle? Portland?, roll through Santa Barbara for the wedding, and continue south to LA and catch a plane home from there. That's what I would do, anyway. The entire coast of California is a great place for a cycle tour.
To the previous poster, your friend seems to have gone south to north. If the OP goes north to south, he should have constant tailwinds!

4I just scanned the two links. They do not give minutiae details that have previously been reported on this TT forum. Use the Search All Forums space above to check the archives about the bicycle route along the Pacific Coast.
