Hotel / route Suggestions neededHi Everyone,
I'm heading down to Panama this week. I'll be on my own for 5 days before meeting up with my friends in Panama City. We'll be traveling for an additional 10 days- mostly in and around Panama City.
I am definitely more of a "backpacker" than my friends are and as such am trying to work out a good itinerary for myself. I arrive in Panama City on the 29th and need to be back in the same city on the evening of the 3rd.
Here are my questions:
If you had 3-5 days to go someplace fantastic in Panama, where would you go? Boquete, Bocas Del Toro, or San Blas?
I'm operating on a budget and am a independent female traveler with little Spanish under her belt.
I was thinking of heading to Boquete, but should I reconsider the other two options?
Is San Blas worth getting out to at this time of year or is it generally over cast and cloudy/rainy?
Is Bocas Del Toro too expensive for a shoe string budget?

1Bocas is cheap enough but with with your time frame it will not be worth it to take the bus there.
Although San Blas is very rural it's not super cheap but it can be done. Weather... Who knows, right now it's sun sun sun in Bocas but nit sure about San blas. Try contacting hostels in panama city for packages. You could go to boquete or Santa fe or Santa Catalina as anywhere on the pacific side is within a 7 hour bus ride.

As of right now, Im thinking of arriving in PC and taking a flight directly to Bocas. Stay there for Sat-Sunday and then travel to David for Monday and Tuesday and then take a bus back on Tuesday evening. Quick, I know...but sounds worth it to me!:)
RE: San Blas...if I can convince my friends, perhaps we'll go there later on in our trip. I've heard amazing things about the area and I would be sad if I could not go there at some point on my trip.
I see you can take a bus (4.5 hrs according to LP) from the Mainland near Bocas to David. How does one get from the island to the bus station? Is this information my hostel would be able to help me with? -Anyone else do this lately have any tips to share?

3Yes that is a fast trip. If you are flying, great! The bus to David is about four hours and you just take a 1.00 taxi to the bus station from the mainland. Buses run every 30 minutes or so and I think it's around 8 bucks. I assume you will be going to the mountains from David which is another hour. Of course if the weather is nice you may find yourself staying in bocas, it happens. The bus from David to the City is around 6 hours. Do you have a hostel in mind for Bocas? There are a million and they are all empty. There is an interesting looking one in the mountains between bocas and David called Lost And Found.

4It is the green season, so you can expect the mountains to have rain. Instead of staying in David consider playa la barqueta, or boca chica. If you choose Barqueta, there is a bus that goes to Guarumal and then out to the beach. Las olas hotel should have green season specials or check in with la costena restaurant on the beach, they have two rooms for rent.

6San Blas is beautiful but very primitive, no showers, no electricity. Think of it as camping in paradise.
Bocas, very nice, lots of Mosquitos.
I have 1 spot left for a volunteer any time from July 15 to July 22.
