Visa on arrival without onward flight
I understand that one of the requirements for receiving a visa on arrival in Uganda is the ability to show them that you are going to leave the country again at some point in the future. E.g., you need to show them your return flight tickets. What if, as in our case, you enter Uganda by air from Europe but leave the country overland?
We will have a return flight to show from Zanzibar back to Europe that goes in about 3 weeks time after we plan to enter Uganda. Also a flight from Rwanda to Zanzibar that goes earlier (we want to leave Uganda by going overland to Rwanda). Will this suffice?
Does anyone have experience with a similar situation?

No but we're back just a couple of weeks and we were definitely not asked to show evidence of onward flights. You fill out a card, pay for your visa (if you need one).
I would have thought that if you have your later flight proof with you, you should be fine. Lots of people travel overland so it's something they should be familiar with.

On the land border in Gatuna (from Rwanda) it was also without any problems. Nobody asked me about anything but the passport and 50 $ for a visa.6
Do not undermine the Rwanda visa requirements too. You need to apply for their visa online
