How do I get to Pangandaran????
Hi People.....I have been trawling thru websites trying to find how I can get to Pangandaran on the south coast of Java.
The LP Guide book says I can catch a train from Gambir (JKT) to Banjar and then local bus to Pangandaran.....but I cannot find any train that goes to Banjar from JKT.....all seem to leave from Yoga!!!!! Can anyone make a suggestion??
Also need to get from Pangandaran to Yogya.....but cannot find trains leaving Banjar or Sidareja for Yogya. Again they all seem to leave from Yogya and travel back to Banjar/Sidareja. Any suggestions??
Thanks for any help
Chris

You might need to get to Bandung first. There are a few train from Bandung heading to Banjar.Another way is to take bus. There should be a direct bus from jakarta, but mostly will require you to transfer. Train would be more comfortable albeit slower.
Train heading east from banjar would almost always stop in Yogya. These trains go to Solo, Surabaya, Malang from Bandung. You can alight in Yogya.

Bus from Bandung is how we got there. It was a LONG wait at the Bandung bus depot as we didn't ask when the bus left Bandung after arriving from Jakarta. I recommend you find out how long the connection is!Edited by: TheSackMonk

I was in this exact situation 3 months ago. I never found a direct train from Jakarta to Banjar, so I believe the following is the best approach: take a train from Jakarta to Bandung (leaving Jakarta by train means you don't deal with the horrible traffic). I spent the night in Bandung (it's a decent, easier-to-manage city than Jakarta), but maybe you don't need to stay - not sure. Take a bus directly from Bandung to Pangandaran - I believe I took one that left at 9 A.M. costing either 25,000 or 35,000 and only stopping about 3 tmes en route. I think it took 7 hours and it was nice and comfortable. Then when you leave Pangandaran, take a bus to Banjar, and there IS a train from Banjar to Yogya. The Banjar train station is nothing much and the train I caught was like an hour late but it DOES exist. I don't remember the time it departed but I think it was sometime between 11 A.M. and 1 P.M. Alternatively, pay a hefty sum (200,000 or 250,000) and you can take a quick, door-to-door AC minibus from Pangandaran to Yogya.By the way, I highly recommend you consider staying in the village of Batu Karas instead of Pangandaran. Another hour of travel west along the coast, via Pangandaran, but much much nicer.
Hope that helps...
