University of Mexico in Mexico City

Is it worth visiting? Do they have a bookstore where I could buy a tank top with University of Mexico printed on it?

Do you mean UNAM (Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico)? If so, surely you could find something around the campus, as it's enormous (and also pretty cool). The shirt's not going to say "Universidad de Mexico" or "University of Mexico" on it, though.

It's basically its own city (Ciudad Universitaria). Who can say whether it's "worth visiting" when we have no idea of what you consider worthwhile.

In my opinion, you shold take a look at it. It's pretty neat place. I haven't had enough coffee to expand my comments, but if you have the time to go, then go. You should also take advantage of the other places in that area.

One place you can buy clothing with UNAM logos is at the entrance to the university closest to the Universidad metro station. There are a number of booths there with vendors selling a variety of UNAM clothing.

Whether the university is worth visiting depends on what interests you. The main points of interest are considered to be the murals on the outside of the library and the museum (#4 above). Next, the soccer stadium and the botanical garden.

If you visit the Faculty of Science (I don’t think you’d find this in any tourist guide), some points of interest are the Prometheus fountain, and the “local garden’’ growing vegetables and herbs on the cafeteria roof, the same which are cooked and served (at student-friendly prices) below inside the cafeteria.

Just a short walk on Insurgentes you can visit the circular pyramids that predate Teotihuacan

Also the 1968 Summer Olympics stadium

Am I understanding this correctly? To visit UNAM they charge a fee. Edmund

???? I've never paid anything to visit UNAM. It's a sprawling campus but still a public space within the city. There is an art museum, which functions as any other museum, i.e. has an entrance fee.

#7, not sure what comment you’re reacting to, but the gates to the campus are wide open with no entrance fee or security check.
