Some LA Questions
Hi team.We arrive into LAX at 8:00am on a Sunday in early May - and pick up our car. We'll spend the night near Santa Monica, and the next day head to Santa Barbara for the night ... before spending a few days re-visiting the PCH as far as Monterey, then Yosemite NP and San Francisco.
I would like to visit the Getty Museum (and also do a pass through "Hollywood" - cheesy I know, but on my several arrivals into LAX I haven't done it), and also stroll Santa Monica, and Venice I guess. We also have a friend we could see in Marina Del Ray.
So my question is - should we see the Getty etc on that first day (Sunday), and then the next day, drive straight through to Malibu etc, and spend a fair bit of time in Santa Barbara, or should we leave the Getty until the Monday (less crowded?), and then head to Santa Barbara somewhat later, because SB doesn't hold that much that is interesting?
We like strolling neighbourhoods, looking at nice buildings, having a coffee, and doing other small-scale stuff in cities. And in terms of our timing, there is almost no jet-lag on arrival into LAX from Australia, and I am used to driving in big cities in the US on the right-hand side.

Getty museumsYou say "the Getty museum," but there are two: the large Getty Center, near Brentwood (which is what I assume you mean) and the smaller Getty Villa, on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, "dedicated to the study of the arts and cultures of ancient Greece, Rome, and Etruria." Note that the Getty Center is closed on Mondays (the Villa is closed on Tuesdays), which makes the decision about which day to go easy. For either place, admission is free but parking is $15, and for the Villa you're supposed to print out your time-stamped parking pass in advance (we got there earlier than our assigned time and had no trouble entering). You could see the Center at the beginnking of your trip and the Villa at the end, or see both in one day. If you can see just one I'd opt for the Center, though the Villa is quite nice and has tours of the gardens in addition to the museum exhibits.

Thanks BubbaK - all solved for us then ... Getty Center Sunday, and perhaps the Getty Villa in Malibu on our Monday road-trip north.3

NowNow MarkMark - that is very naughty sub-editing.You left off the question mark ... I was in fact asking the question whether we should dedicate more time to Santa Barbara, because it is actually interesting and worthwhile. So why not be a nice person rather than flaming me ... and recommend some good things to see or do in SB? My one experience of it is being driven straight through by American hosts who were in a great hurry.
And I see you have edited your post and added some stuff ... thanks for that.
